Tents are essential for camping regardless if you are car camping, backpacking, or wanting a survival shelter. 

Thanks to online shopping, you can usually find deals all-year round. 

But you can find better deals locally, at the end of traditional camping seasons such as late fall. 

This is because up north, people tend to stop camping once winter sets in. The snow keeps people away. 

I camp in Texas, so our camping season lasts almost all year. 

I tend to stop tent camping during the summer because it's too hot. 

But during the late fall (the north) or late spring (in the south) you should see camping gear for sale at local retailers and on Facebook Marketplace. 

If you are buying a used tent make sure to pitch the tent before completing the purchase. 

This way you know you have all of the components. You also want to check for any obvious rips or tears. 

Once home, you might need to apply water repellant like you need to on any older tent. You may also need to reapply seam sealant.
